Treasurer’s Report – Current balance of $579. We have deposited $50 toward reserving space at Our
Lady of the Holy Spirit Center for the 2020 Day of Recollection.
Old Business
1. Our Lady of the Holy Spirit Center has available for us a large room with round tables for eating at
one end and meeting space at the other. It’s 100% ADA (handicapped accessible), and the Center
recommended two caterers. There has been no contact with a caterer yet, since it’s too early. May 16,
2020 is the date reserved.
Pat has contacted the Oblate Office and Janis Dopp about this date and the reservation, and has heard
nothing against it in return. Nick recommends we do a flier for 2020 to be given out at the 2019 Day of
Recollection.
The Center has rooms for out of town guests to rent, if there’s no retreat going on.
2. Ron visited John Campbell at his apartment. He can’t get around much. Fr. Joseph will be at out
February meeting, and Ron will ask him if he can visit John.
3. The St. Meinrad Day of Service is March 9 in Dayton. There may be 1 or 2 people going.
New Business
The Dorns are unable to continue doing refreshments. We decided to continue having individuals bring
food items, and we will have no drinks.
Peyton will be going on the April 17 Honor Flight to Washington, DC. Ron asked him to report on his
experience at the April meeting.
Laurie recommended a book to us: St. Benedict and St. Terese: The Little Rule, The Little Way.
Author is an Anglican convert, Fr. Dwight Longenecker. Publisher is Stauffer Books, c. 2017
Ron suggested having a “goal text” as individuals. This was recommended by a St. Meinrad monk, and
some of the monks have them.
Program: Discussion of The Screwtape Letters, by C.S. Lewis, our book assignment from Br. Francis
Not all at the meeting have read the book.
Study Questions from Br. Francis: Ron was the only one who had answered them all. Two people had
done the first five. So we all discussed the first five today.
There was a short discussion of “The Apostolic Blessing”, a prayer to be said at the time of death.
Some carry this in their wallets. Pat will send a copy with the next newsletter.
Ron read a closing prayer and quote from St. Francis deSales..”We must not fret over our own
imperfections, but we can rest in the reconciling and healing compassion and love of God, through
Jesus.”
We then shared refreshments.
