April 2013 Newsletter

Attendance at our meeting last month was sparse due to the winter storm that threatened the area on March 24.  Our meeting, therefore, was very brief.  The video conference scheduled for the March meeting will be shown at the October meeting.

The Guest Speaker for our April 28 meeting is Fr. Joseph Cox, OSB.  The title of Fr, Joseph’s talk is “Lectio Divina and Death.”

This will be our last chapter meeting until September.  However, the Ohio Day of Recollection will be held in Dayton on May 18 (please see the reminder below for additional information).  If there is anyone who would like to attend that cannot afford to pay the $40 fee for the retreat, please let Rosemary, Clyde or me know.

I would also like to remind you of the invitation from the St. Walburg Oblates to attend their Annual Ice Cream Social on Saturday, June 22.

Hope to see you all at the meeting on the 28th!

IMPORTANT REMINDER

The theme of the conference is:  “Conversing With God in Scripture.”
Fr. Columba Kelly, OSB, will be the presenter for this conference.

March 2013 Newsletter

What a fantastic meeting we had last month!  We were especially blessed to welcome Sr. Mary Tewes and the oblates of St.Walburga Monastery in Covington, Kentucky as our special guests and to learn about St. Walburga and their oblate program.  The St. Walburga oblates have invited our Cincinnati oblates to join them at their Annual Ice Cream Social on Saturday, June 22, 2013 from 2-4 p.m. for Bingo and ice cream.  See the enclosed flyer for more information.

We were also privileged to celebrate John Campbell’s 88th birthday.  John, better known to many Cincinnati oblates as Bro. Patrick, has been an oblate of Saint Meinrad since 1943—an amazing 70 years! Congratulations, John!

In addition, we welcomed a new member, Scott Alt, who was invested by Fr. Meinrad as an oblate novice.  Scott is shown below with Fr. Meinrad. It is a joy to have you with us, Scott. Our prayers are with you as you discern your vocation as an oblate of Saint Meinrad.

REMINDER:  March 31 is a Feast of St. Benedict and oblates have an opportunity to earn a Plenary Indulgence by fulfilling the following conditions:  1) Confession, 2) Receiving Holy Communion, and 3) Praying for the intentions of the Holy Father.  In addition, oblates should renew, at least privately, their promise to faithfully observe the promise of their way of life.
